So. How about those relics? SE dropped a huge bomb that no one in our shell saw until it detonated on BG. Mai directed me to the shrapnel.
The short of it is that relic weapons and mythic weapons are now almost-impossible to maintain. Before, you farmed Dynamis and slaved away twice a week for 100+ weeks to get your relic weapon. (Shield and Horn are exempt.) You were then granted the cream of the crop, the best weapon your job could use in almost any situation. These things were equal.
The Magian update allows you to upgrade your Relic/Mythic weapon to be superior to the Magian equivalents, but the cost is steep. Too steep, really. Where a player such as myself can just crush some NMs and get themselves a nice, 100 damage axe that is superior to an unaugmented Bravura, a Bravura holder would have to adjust damage by landing 1500 Metatron Torments on EP mobs. Then they'd have to KILL 1500 mobs with the skill. It ended up with a nice damage weapon that was still superior.
The problem is, the new trials are insane. You have to kill 1500 of a specific mob family with the relic weaponskill/mythic weaponskill. You have to do this four times, each time granting you a very very insubstantial bonus until the last, where you have to instead kill a specific family 2000 times.
Pretend for a moment you can kill a mob every 60 seconds. You need to do this for 1500+1500+1500+2000 minutes. That's 6500 minutes. That's 109 hours, basically. That's if you can kill an enemy every 60 seconds. I'm willing to bet most people cannot.
This is also only the first real bump in the trial log. There are two more expansions coming, two more level increases, and that means two more sets of trials. It's going to get even uglier unless SE adjusts those numbers very, very soon to make it possible for people to do in any reasonable time.
It's this specifically that buried my dreams of Bravura. I wanted it, wanted it bad, but I tried to think about how I'd feel if I actually owned one and SE told me I now had 109+ hours to put into my weapon. Even doing forty-hour weeks, eight hours a day, it'd take me a month. That's at an impossible speed. We're looking at a more realistic 3-4 month period here. I don't think I could stomach that, knowing that I'd have to do it even harder in future updates. I think this is the sort of thing that would drive me to quit, or madness.
I'd rather do new content, faster-paced and much more fun. I'd rather start socking away 2 million cruor for the inevitable requirement to make my future-axe even more badass. I'd rather have fun with the game than turn it into work. That'd only make me hate the things I love, and I don't need that.
