So I checked out the linkshell that was recruiting on the AH website.
Sidenote: I'm not sure why I still look at those things, since I look down on them so much.
They have this cute main page that almost makes me feel bad for mocking them. There's a big ol' CONGRATS post for people getting:

CONGRATS FOR GETTING GENBU'S SHIELD! Seriously? I was almost impressed, the picture below it is someone staring down Sandworm... until you scroll down a bit and see that it's an abyssea mob. You scroll down a bit more and see happy shots of fighting Kirin. And Byakko. A congrats post for some useless sea stuff.

Looking around a bit more I find their forums. Listing for Sky Sea SCNM VNM ZNM and no Abyssea. Ooh! Rules for points!
Just so you know, they use a DKP system. There's a list of values for all the drops from Sky and Sea. 2 Grah chips is 2 points. 12 grah chips is 10 points. You can only turn in chip sets in 2 or 12. I wonder if I'd be allowed to turn in 2 chips 6 times.
Amusingly, they DO have a DKP point value for if you're there for when they pop "Avsolute Virtue." 50 for winning, 5 for losing.
I didn't see any congratulations for them killing AV on the front page. Summer must have been slow.
Aww, listing for VNMs up to t4, I guess they don't do PW?
...I am astounded. They have a trial period. In 2010. This post was made in May of 2010.

Alright, check this out. Time to be even more of a petty dick.
Kirin's Pole: Mnk > All other jobs. These people have never heard of a stoneskin set, I guess.
Neptunal Gear: Everyone on the piece > Pld/Brd. I guess all DD jobs are created equal, better put N.Body on that Thf before a Dragoon gets one. Well, in 2005.
The only piece of Z gear BLM has priority on is the hands, which sort of makes sense. No one uses Sorc these days anyway, amirite?
All of their Jailer weapons cost points. Thank god they aren't plentiful.
War is listed behind Sam/Drk on Justice Torque. I guess that 5 str > a gorget.
Whm has priority over Blm for PRUDENCE ROD. Thank god.
...but BLM has priority over Whm on the torque.
Ninja is on the priority list tied with Cor (behind all other jobs, mind you) for Novio. They are behind Blu. BETTER:
Ninja is not /on/ Novio earring. Neither is Thief. WHM/BRD/RDM > SCH > SMN/BLM/RNG > Rest. Logical.
RNG is top for the AV racc/ratk ring. COR is tied with SAM.
Most curiously, Raphael's Rod is 25 points, WHM/THF > All.

Moving on, they don't have any postings whatsoever for Abyssea. Checking the roster, they only have 15 people, one of which is a trial member. Their leader is currently ranked 11,000~ overall and has one 85 job, WHM. And these people advertise AV drops.
...That took longer than I thought, and isn't even what I really wanted to write about.
I guess I am becoming a huge snob when it comes to XI. I don't mind, though, as long as my own linkshell doesn't. I'm becoming/have become the antithesis of what Alcedea was all about: Going at the best possible pace with all of our members, going after realistic goals aggressively and obtaining what I want, what my shell wants. That's a radical departure from doing nothing except maybe some exp with a perma pl and using whatever gear happens to be around the mog house.
It's a blurry line. I don't understand how people who frequent the AH site can not know better. There are always datmining threads copied from BG. There's always talk of new gear, how to obtain, how to get better things. Why do people stay in Sky? Did WoW have this problem? When BC came out, did people reject the expansion and just pretend it didn't exist whatsoever?
Hey guys, maybe once we hit 65 in Scholo we can go do some quests in HFP. You know, just to check it out. Nothing major, I didn't get that purple from whatever boss is still relevant in my ignorant mind. You OWE me that purple, I've wanted it for SOOOOOOO long.
I made the mistake of tabbing. I was still on their roster page. Someone explain this to me:
Primary: Scholar Puppetmaster Ninja Ranger Beastmaster Red Mage. Secondary: None.
Is that a job listing? I think they need to reassess what the word "primary" means. Also, nice. They farmed Sea tonight, got 6 grah chips. 3 sets of 2 points all around. Someone else with Primary Bard Red Thief Unknown Unknown. No secondaries.
Oh, and this guy: Primary RDM THF BLM UNKNOWN Secondary SMN DRG SAM WAR.
I hate every one of these people for thinking they are a real linkshell. They are a social shell taking advantage of a level cap increase, a group of individuals who think just because they can run sky and sea like it's 2004 that they're relevant and therefor should post recruitment pages and hold trial memberships. I don't mind ignorance in situations like this, because not every can know something immediately, but I really despise make-believe in a game where these people share the same cities and servers with the people burning their nights in Abyssea trying to get DNC shoes. The only thing worse than ignorance in, say, Nou's case is someone like Nou pretending he's hot shit because he's able to kill Kirin.
