We were talking earlier today about The Old Republic, the Star Wars MMO coming out. We hit a little bit about how Star Wars itself is Raid-retardant and how it's impossible to balance a Jedi on account of them being a Jedi. Then I watched the trailer that teases HK-47 being in the game.
The trailer starts with some standard story hooks. A Chiss with an english accent is talking to a human with an english accent and then begin speaking about some hidden hidey-hole that a jedi named Revan stashed. They touch on how Revan was both Sith and Jedi before his "rebirth" and the english Chiss asks what english human means by that. Cut to a shadow ominously standing over what I think was Revan's badass Sith mask.
Montage of shooting and fighting, looks like KOTOR only somehow an MMO. Cut back to the party, where english human tells them that they have the right to be the first to explore Revan's hidey-hole. Sounds dirty.
At the very end, we get a shot of HK-47 calling the group meatbags, rifle raised. Now, I can't speak for HK because unlike just about everyone else who sucks on his titanium knob, I didn't particularly care for him. You want to have him show up and be a super badass robot who'll basically act to them like Shantotto acts to every PC in XI? Okay, whatever.
Don't tell me what Revan did. In fact, don't tell me who Revan was. The chatter obviously remarks on Revan being male. I'm uncomfortable with the fact that whatever person I created in KOTOR is quite possibly going to be rolled over for whatever story has to be injected. I dislike requiring Revan to have a legacy 300 years later. I dislike change where they've already established, through their own game, a malleable history.
